The New Media department at UNC Asheville focuses on creativity and innovation in the study of new media within a liberal arts context. Through a balance of courses in theory, criticism, and practice, students develop an understanding of art and design principles as applied to new media. We encourage our students to take risks, think critically and collaborate across disciplines.
After initial foundation course work in the freshman and sophomore year, students select an emphasis area and focus in one of three concentrations: interactive art and design, computer animation, or video art and design.
We prepare our students to be new media artists, and encourage serious play, self-discipline, lifelong learning, and community service. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree, students will have the theoretical background, technical experience, and problem-solving skills to succeed in future endeavors in graduate school or in a new media career.
